Who doesn’t love Emma Watson? She has seemingly done the impossible by making a seamless transition from child star to successful and talented actress. We adore how her style on the red carpet has developed, too. While we’re not going to analyze what she wore when she was 11 – that would be weird – it’s clear that with the mistakes we all make growing up, Emma’s fashion choices just get better and better.
At the This Is The End premiere on June 3rd, Watson was impeccable in a Roland Mouret bustier with Philip Lim pants. Ferragamo pumps and Karma el Khalil arrowhead earrings finished a look that was equal parts edgy and sleek. This seems to sum up Emma’s current style: she chooses classic silhouettes and flawless makeup, with tougher details and intriguing prints.
Emma’s enjoyed forays into various trends. A minimalist Calvin Klein slip was an unexpected turn (although, honestly, we prefer this look in red on Jennifer Lawrence). A velvet one-shouldered dress by Vionnet was a nod to 80s goth – especially with the addition of those dramatic jewelry pieces.
We truly consider this one of the turning points in Emma’s style career. A vintage Ossie Clark tailored perfectly for her, this look was both youthful and sophisticated. Watson wore this to the 2009 premiere of Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, reflecting the popular bohemian style of the time.
Emma looks gorgeous in gold, combining these dresses with dramatic eye makeup and chunky shoes. To a 2011 New York premiere, she wowed in a Bottega Veneta corset gown, finished with pearl drop earrings by Lorraine Schwartz. Attending the Burberry 2009 Fall/Winter show in London, she wore a piece from the label’s new collection. At the time, Watson was a face of the brand, appearing in its campaigns. She was a perfect fit for the consciously British brand.
Emma can be delicate and ethereal just as easily. A tulle Oscar de la Renta was magical at the world premiere for the last of the Potter movies, while Valentino was an elegant and feminine choice for the BAFTAs, just a few months earlier.
She’s not afraid to play with prints either. Miu Miu is always a wise choice for young stars, with their sweet printed separates for quirky and playful outfits. An Alexander McQueen tartan flared dress – worn to the GQ Men of the Year Awards – was toughened by a leather jacket and studded Louboutin pumps.
Emma experiments with leather and shorter hemlines in ways that don’t seem too revealing or ostentatious. A Rafael Lopez feathered mini was definitely a more polished style for her on the Potter circuit. A Christopher Kane leather mini with floral embroidery was perfect for an event she co-hosted with Vogue in March 2010.
A Karl Lagerfeld playsuit paired with Louboutin bow platforms was gorgeous for the 2010 National Movie Awards. How adorable are those silver star stud earrings?
Emma proves time and time again that a black and white ensemble doesn’t have to be boring. A Jason Wu peplum top with mini skirt was accented with a leopard print clutch by Charlotte Olympia. A 2009 Christopher Kane organza geometric dress was fashion-forward for an interview with Letterman, again finished with shoes from Charlotte Olympia. Dellal’s brand is clearly one of Emma’s favorites for accessories.
A scuba-style digital print dress by Brood is toughened up with studded cuffs and a glossy navy manicure. Minimal makeup balances out her style.
At the same awards ceremony just a year later, we see how Emma’s style has subtly evolved to stay on-trend. A structured Proenza Schouler with graduated blue tones is a contemporary, fresh look. Those curved rings are an understatedly chic finish.
Just last month, Emma opted for Christopher Kane’s maroon separates from Fall ’13. It’s a sleek, clean look – perfect for a daytime photo call in Cannes. Again, full brows and delicate makeup allow Emma’s natural beauty to shine through.
Also at Cannes, Emma’s Chanel for the premiere of The Bling Ring was flawless. A sequined black bodice was softened by a flowing, white skirt – while her Repossi ear cuff brought a playful edge to her otherwise elegant style.
What is your favorite outfit that Emma’s worn over the years? What do you think of her evolving style? Let us know in the comments!
